Sir Alex Ferguson is sweating on the fitness of Wayne Rooney after the Manchester United striker took a knock to his ankle against Aston Villa.

The England international is a major doubt for the midweek friendly international against Sweden after limping off in the final 11 minutes of United's 3-2 win at VIlla Park on Saturday.
Rooney was one of only three attacking options available to Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson for Wednesday's clash in Stockholm, with Red Devils team-mate Danny Welbeck and Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge making up the trio.
Ferguson is now facing an anxious wait as the 26-year-old gets assessed by the club's medical staff on Sunday.
"Rooney got an ankle knock and he's got some ice on it," the Scot told Sky Sports. "We'll see what it's like tomorrow."
