McDermott: Winless this season

A disappointing game at the Madejski Stadium saw Reading held to a goalless draw against Norwich as the Royals continue their search for a first home win of the season.

The hosts made the stronger start to the match, with Garath McCleary looking dangerous on the right, but he repeatedly failed to find an adequate cross to compliment his wing play.

This was typical of his side and despite their endeavour, they struggled to cut through the stubborn Canaries rearguard and could only muster a single shot on target throughout the opening 45 minutes.

Both managers were understandably unhappy with their players' performances in the opening stanza and whatever was said in the dressing rooms looked to have inspired the respective sides as they both immediately looked to throw men forward after the interval.

However, quality was at a premium and both goalkeepers remained largely untroubled throughout the opening hour.

Reading boss Brian McDermott was the first to blink, introducing the dangerous Pavel Pogrebnyak and Jimmy Kebe on 58 minutes, with both bringing added vigor to their side's play.

It was Norwich though who had the best chances as skipper Grant Holt twice spurned good goal-scoring opportunities that, on another day, could have easily seen him claim the three points for his side.
