The Magpies most recently drew 2-2 away at Club Bruge in the Europa League on Thursday, while a late Luis Suarez goal rescued Liverpool a point as last weekend's league clash at Anfield finished 1-1.

That result left the Tynesiders 10th in the standings with 14 points after 10 games, although, depending on results elsewhere this weekend, a win could lift the Toon Army into the top four.

The Hammers, meanwhile, have blown hot and cold this season but start the day one point and one place above Newcastle in the standings, although their form in their previous Premier League travels has been truly atrocious, with the London club having won just three of their 41 top-flight matches away from Upton Park.

The London club did, however, look in fine form as they held defending champions Manchester City to a goalless draw last weekend, although they had lost their previous tie against Wigan, which followed on from a win over Southampton and defeat to Arsenal.

In team news, Newcastle will be without suspended duo Cheick Tiote and Fabricio Coloccini, but manager Alan Pardew is set to welcome Jonas Gutierrez, Hatem Ben Arfa and Demba Ba back to the team after resting the trio in midweek.

Danny Simpson, though, remains out with a shoulder injury while James Perch is out for up to six weeks with a thigh strain.

For the Hammers, both James Collins and James Tomkins are facing late fitness tests, meaning Winston Reid proves manager Sam Allardyce's only fully fit centre-back.

Full-back Guy Demel has only just returned to training following a hernia problem and is unlikely to play, while Matthew Taylor (calf), Ricardo Vaz Te (shoulder) and Jack Collison (knee) remain sidelined.
