The Red Devils booked their spot in the knockout stages of this season's edition with a come-from-behind 3-1 victory at SC Braga on Wednesday.

United will now go in search of only their fourth title in the history of Europe's premier football competition.

Premier League rivals, the Reds, have bagged five Champions League trophies that earned them the right to keep one in their trophy cabinet.

Real Madrid (nine) and AC Milan (seven) also have a keep-sake back home, while Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Ajax are all one away from securing their own.

And that's the company with which Ferguson wishes to keep.

"In terms of the history of our club, we should have won more and I want to win it again and get into the bracket of winners like Liverpool, our biggest rivals, Bayern Munich and Ajax," the Scot told the media after his side's midweek win.

"AC Milan and Real Madrid have got separated from the rest but that definitely drives me on a bit."

United came close to European glory the last few seasons, the 19-time English champions runners-up to Barca in 2009 and 2011, much to Ferguson's regret.

"I get really frustrated when I think about the opportunities we have had to win it, but you can't be greedy," he added.

"You look at my career and I have won two European Cups and the Cup-winners' Cup and I am proud of that."
