The Reds currently top group A with six points after a 1-0 victory over the Dagestan outfit in Matchday Three of the competition, much-maligned winger Stuart Downing netting the all-important winning goal.

Rodgers will hand several of his younger players the chance to impress, with Sunday's clash with defending Premier League champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the back of his mind.

Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Joe Allen, Nuri Sahin, Daniel Agger, Raheem Sterling and Jose Enrique have all been given the night off.

As a result, Stephen Sama, Adam Morgan and Conor Coady have been added to the travelling party.

Veteran Jamie Carragher is expected to captain the squad in the absence of Gerrard, while goalkeeper Brad Jones will continue in goal for the Reds.

midfielder Lucas (thigh), 'keeper Pepe Reina and defender Glen Johnson (both hamstring) miss out again.

Anzhi, meanwhile, occupy second place with four points, and sit above third-placed Napoli by virtue of a superior goal difference.

Guus Hiddink is expected to field a full-strength team for the tie, with Samuel Eto'o, Christopher Samba and Yuri Zhirkhov all set to start.
