The Blues relinquished top spot in the Premier League at the weekend with a 1-1 draw at Swansea City.

However, the build-up to Saturday's clash was hardly ideal for the west Londoners, who had faced Manchester United back-to-back after controversy marred their first encounter.

United were 3-2 winners at Stamford Bridge in the league last Sunday, before Roberto Di Matteo's side exacted some revenge by dumping the new league leaders out the Capital One Cup in midweek.

The European champions will also be acutely aware of their 2-1 defeat in Ukraine two weeks ago, and will be desperate to open up more than a one-point lead over third-placed Juventus.

In team news, Di Matteo is set to name John Terry in his starting XI with the Blues skipper having missed the trip to Wales due to his four-game domestic ban.

Meanwhile, Fernando Torres will again be expected to lead the line despite a barren spell recently in front of goal.

Group E leaders Shakhtar have the luxury of a fully-fit squad to choose from for the midweek tie.

Towering defender Dmytro Chygrynskiy could be handed a starting berth after missing the first Champions League clash with the Blues.
