The former Zenit Saint Petersburg centre-back has been one of the Reds' more consistent performers over the past few seasons, having signed for them in 2008 and going on to make over 100 appearances.

The Slovakia international recently penned a new long-term deal at Anfield, but that hasn't stopped the rumour mongers from trying to unsettle him.

The 27-year-old told The Sun: "I just signed a contract extension with Liverpool. Means that I will remain here. I'm not going to leave Liverpool for another club."

Skrtel was linked with a move to Anzhi Makhachkala ahead of the two teams' Europa League tie on Thursday.

He added: "I'm comfortable at Liverpool and I've been together with this team. So forget about the news I will move to Anzhi."
