Van Persie joined United in July following his PFA Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year and Golden Boot award-winning 2011/12 campaign for the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger has already asked the capital club's supporters not to give the prolific Dutchman a difficult time.

And for once, Ferguson is in agreement with his French counterpart, although the Scot is confident Van Persie has earned the fans' respect, not animosity.

"I think Arsene has laid his seed for his supporters in terms of respecting him," the Red Devils boss said.

"I think, if you think about all the former players who have come back to Old Trafford, they always get a warm applause.

"I don't think he'll have a problem tomorrow. I think the fans will recognise the eight years he gave them and I think that will be nice."

Van Persie has already scored nine times in all competitions for the 19-time English champions.
