The controversy erupted after United's 3-2 victory over Chelsea on Saturday in which Clattenburg was accused of using "innapropriate language" towards Mikel.

And since then, the official has denied any wrongdoing as the Football Association and the Police both investigate the events surrounding that day.

However, Ferguson refuses to believe that Clattenburg could have made those comments.

"I don't believe Mark Clattenburg would make any comments like that. I refuse to believe it," he said.

"I think it is unthinkable in the modern climate. I just don't believe it - simple as that.

"There is no way a referee would stoop to that, I am convinced of that."
