Former skipper and Dolphins star Emah Godwin moved to Akwa United during the off-season, leaving the club with a vacant captaincy position to fill before the season starts, with Rotimi the clear choice as last season's vice captain.

"With the departure of long time player and former captain of Dolphins, Emah Godwin to Akwa United, former Super Eagles' goalkeeper, Sunday Rotimi has been named acting captain of the club," the club revealed in a statement on Tuesday.

"He had been an assistant to Emah Godwin but will now serve in acting capacity with the departure of Emah Godwin to Uyo."

However, Dolphins head coach Stanley Eguma stated that Rotimi would not take up the captain's armband on a permanent basis, but will only be the interim skipper.

"Of course, he has the qualities and that is why he was acting captain previously. Now we expect him to do a good job at leading the team this season," Eguma said.
