The Buccaneers were in complete control in the opening 37 minutes to race to a 2-0 lead, but they went into the break with the scores at 2-1 and capitulated in the second-half to lose the game 3-2.
Lekgwathi believes Swallows' first goal took the wind out of the Sea Robbers' sails and halted their momentum going into the interval.
"I have to admit that once again we let ourselves down for not winning that match," he said on the club's official website
"Everyone saw that we played to win that game but circumstances in end, did not permit us to stretch our lead and preserve the result until the last minute.
"The first goal we conceded killed the morale of some players, especially those who have not played for a very long time."
Lekgwathi also believes the midweek loss, which left them two points behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs, would not have a big impact on their title aspirations this campaign, but insists the time for excuses is over.
He added: "As a captain, I will take it up on myself to inspire the boys not to panic or feel under pressure after last nights' result, as nothing is lost as far as the league is concerned.
"We will have to find an alternative to win our next matches and there will be no more excuses - we owe a lot to our supporters, our fans are not happy and we will have to do something about it."
