Sifiso Myeni opened the scoring for Pirates before Andile Jali added a second from the penalty spot, although Katlego Mashego managed to pull one back for the Dube Birds on 45 minutes, while Lefa Tsutsulupa and Lerato Chabangu completed the turn-around before the 68th minute.

The result, Swallows' second win over Pirates in the league this season, took Zeca Marques' side to 10th, five points clear of the relegation zone, while the Buccaneers remain two points behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs

It took Pirates exactly 58 seconds to break through the Swallows defence as Takesure Chinyama did well to read the bounce of the ball before holding up play brilliantly and threading through for Myeni, who took one touch to set himself before slotting the ball past Greg Etafia.

Midway through the first-half the Birds almost drew themselves level as Siyabonga Nomvethe did brilliantly out wide to lose his marker before delivering a really dangerous cross into the area, but the ball got caught up in the feet of Mashego, who eventually saw the defender toe-poke away to safety.

The match became more scrappy as the half went on, although it wasn't helped by the referee's penchant for producing yellow cards, with no fewer than five players going into the notebook before the 30 minute mark.

With 37 minutes gone the Buccaneers grabbed their second, albeit through fortunate circumstances as the referee harshly awarded a penalty for a handball by Roger da Costa, with Jali stepping up to confidently slot home from the spot.

The hosts managed to steal one back just before the break as Dikgang Mabalane was played in behind the defenders to cut to the by-line before pulling the ball back for Mashego, who opened his body to smartly direct the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Pirates had a gilt-edged chance for a third right after the break as Daine Klate floated a gorgeous ball over the top of the defence to pick out the speedy run of Oupa Manyisa, but with all the time and space to pick out his effort he couldn't get a proper touch on the ball and really promising chance went begging.

With an hour gone in the game the hosts drew themselves level, Chabangu's rasping drive coming back off the post, but falling kindly for Tsutsulupa who smartly put his diving header into the back of the net.

Seven minutes later, the Birds took the lead for the first time in the match, with a free kick from a good 40 yards out finding the head of Chabangu, who got the slightest of touches to send the ball just past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
