Karuturi coach Michael Nam says the rookies were the better side.

"We got many chances but we didn't capitalise on our chances, unlike our opponents. They were clinical and they managed to get back into the game as they converted every chance they got in our match," he told SuperSport.

"It was a good game. At some point it was 50-50 but it was the promoted side that carried the day.

"It is just our first game, the league is on and we hope we'll learn from our mistakes. Kakamega Homeboyz is a new side but it has players from former KPL sides and that has made them a decent opposition. They came here and proved a point.

"We have to go back to the drawing board and work hard."
