Eugene Asike scored in the 82nd minute of the match to give the defending league champs a good start to the new season.
"It is always a good feeling when you win any game but it is best when you start the season with a win," Sofapaka coach David Ouma told SuperSport.
"The result in the game gives us confidence as we move forward. The players worked hard even when they did not have a lot of the ball and that is very commendable.
"Our opponents were on top of their game and I do not think they deserved to lose.
"They controlled the game especially in the second-half and created a few good openings, on another day they would have won, but we picked the three points and I am pleased at it as we focus on the assignments ahead."
