De Sa: Oversaw a forgettable day in Pirates' history

Orlando Pirates coach Roger de Sa feels his squad is short in certain areas, following their 4-1 shock loss to Maluti FET College on Saturday in the Nedbank Cup.

It was arguably the biggest upset in South African football, even more so than Kaizer Chiefs' 2-1 loss to Baroka FC, another team from the third tier, a couple of seasons ago.

The Sea Robbers were without the suspended Andile Jali, but other than that, fielded a full strength team packed with international players.

But De Sa still feels that his side could do with some more quality players, despite already having one of the best squads in the league.

"We don't have enough depth in certain positions, and it showed in certain areas that we don't have enough depth. Well done to them. They fought hard, and they ran hard," he said.

The former Wits coach did, however, admit that his side had been poor on the day, against a Maluti team who were highly motivated for the biggest game of their lives.

"It was a disaster of errors, starting with the first minute on 30 seconds. From then onwards we never got anything right. We never got into the game. We were poor all round," said De Sa.

"At 2-0, we still had a chance, we still had to change things around and we started playing the way we were supposed to play, but we never did (turn the match around).

"I think we were flat in many areas, nothing upfront, and defensively we were very poor," he said.

For Maluti FET coach Morena Ramorebol, it was a day to remember.

"Firstly, let me thank the players, and really the credit must go to these boys. They did well. They stuck to the plan," said Ramoreboli.

"There was a stage where I could see that the experience of Orlando Pirates was working against them, but they stood and fought back."
