A FIFA probe earlier in 2012 alleged betting irregularities during some of Bafana Bafana's 2010 World Cup warm-up matches, with SAFA then suspending five of its top officials, including president Kirsten Nematandani and chief executive Dennis Mumble.

Domestic football's governing body had initially scrapped the idea of an independent inquiry, but following a national executive committee meeting on Saturday, the commission revealed an investigation would go ahead "as soon as possible".

"The commission must submit its findings and recommendations within three months of its establishment," SAFA said in a statement.

The five SAFA officials have since been reinstated, with the institute saying any disciplinary measures against the accused would be put on hold until the outcome of the new inquiry.
