Makhubela: Poor defence again

Black Leopards coach Abel Makhubela says his team are failing to defending as a unit, after losing 3-1 to Kaizer Chiefs in their Premier Soccer League match.

Leopards have conceded eight goals in three games this year starting with a 2-0 loss to Bidvest Wits at home, before a 3-1 loss to Chippa United in Cape Town this past Sunday and to Chiefs by the same scoreline on Wednesday night.

Leopards are now 13th on the PSL table and more importantly they have 17 points together with Ajax Cape Town and AmaZulu, while Chippa are rock bottom with 16 points.

Makhubela identified the defence as the weakest link as he believes they are repeating the same errors in each game, however, he has not given up on the beleaguered Polokwane team yet.

"We started well, but it is the same old story. We are not giving the right efforts when we defend. The defenders and the whole team, because defending is a team tactic," Makhubela told MTNfootball.

"Our transitional moments are too slow. When we lose the ball we tend to forget that we are still in the game and we got punished. Chiefs got their chances and they finished them.

"So, the struggle continues. What can one say? We will just hope that one day we will get it right because we seriously have a crisis there.

"It seems like whenever the opposition scores, we drop in terms of our performance. The main focus now though is how we defend as a team. We are soft. If you look at the goals we give away, they are so cheap.

"We will continue working hard and hope that one day we get it right. The league is still a long way to go. We cannot throw in the towel, we still have to fight. We lost to a good side, they deserved to win. It was not our day; hopefully we will get our day also."
