Brent Carelse opened the scoring for the Chilli Boys in the ninth minute but Matthew Pattison (39) and Ryan Chapman (55) ensured the Clever Boys secured all three points on the night.

The defeat saw Chippa drop to the bottom of the PSL standings, while Wits moved into seventh place.

Wits started strongly and could have opened the scoring in the sixth minute as Calvin Kadi broke into the box but he dallied on the ball allowing the Chippa defence to recover.

Sibusiso Vilakazi then set up Pattison with a shot from the edge of the box that he completely mis-hit before Chippa took the lead.

Carelse found himself unmarked inside the box and smashed home emphatically much to the delight of new coach Wilfred Mugeyi.

Daouda Kassaly could only parry a Pattison free-kick into a group of players but luckily for the goalkeeper there was no one well placed to take advantage of his error.

Wits thought they were level as Kadi found the back of the net in the 23rd minute but he was blown up for offside.

But the Clever Boys were level when Pattison side-footed a cross from Bongolethu Jayiya into the back of the net.

Masibusane Zongo nearly chipped Ryan Harrison at the start of the second half but his effort flew just wide of the target.

And the visitors were soon trailing as Chapman finished another good Jayiya cross to put his side into the lead for the first time in the match.

Pattison wasted a chance to further extend his side's lead late on before Erwin Isaacs saw his free-kick well saved by Kassaly.

Siboniso Gumede saw red in the closing stages for a second yellow card.
