Madibusane Zongo netted first for the Chilli Boys in the 37th minute with Welcome Qalanto doubling the lead two minutes from the half-time break.

Petrus Ngobo sealed the win in the 88th minute after David Zulu had pulled a goal back for Leopards in the 69th minute - and even though they tried to claw their way back, Chippa held on for only their third win this season.

The victory sees the Chilli Boys leapfrog Ajax Cape Town, on goal difference, into 14th place.

Leopards are 13th with a point more than the bottom three and judging by their performances - they lost 2-0 to Bidvest Wits in Polokwane - will face a long, hard battle against the drop.

"We gave them too much space and time in the first half and that was our mistake," said Leopards coach Abel Makhubele.

"We need time to gel; we still have a lot of work to do."

New Chippa coach Wilfred Mugeyi was naturally delighted with the victory but warned that his side need to be more consistent.

"Our game plan worked in the first half but we lost our way in the second. We were scared to lose the lead and this allowed them to come back," the former Ajax Cape Town striker said.

"But we bounced back with the third goal and played better. It's a good victory for us and we'll take it from here."

Chippa's next game is against Wits in Johannesburg while Leopards host Kaizer Chiefs at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
