Dikwena were on the scoresheet as early as the eighth minute through Patrick Malokase, before Mogakolodi Ngele doubled the hosts' lead on the stroke of half-time.

Bafana Bafana star Thuso Phala then added to Stars' tally 14 minutes after the interval, which ultimately made sure of all three points for the Rustenberg outfit.

Cavin Johnson's men now climb to second on the Premiership table, and level on 37 points with leaders Orlando Pirates, but Kaizer Chiefs can overtake Dinaledi should they defeat Free State Stars later in the day.

Meanwhile, the Urban Warriors edge ever close to the relegation zone with new coach Jan Versleijen still without a win since taking charge of the struggling Cape side.

The hosts got off to an excellent start in Phokeng, a quick counter-attacking movement led by goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane found Malokase, who headed the ball down to team-mate Ngele.

Ngele let rip with a left-footed shot from range that had Ajax 'keeper Sean Roberts doing well to parry away, but unfortunately only as far as Malokase, who coolly slotted home at the far post.

Six minutes later, the visitors had an opportunity to draw level through Keagan Dolly, who was put through on goal by an accurate through ball, but had his shot saved by Mpontshane from a tight angle.

Malokase was in the thick of the action again shortly after when Henrico Botes found Phala, who put in an accurate cross to find the strikers at the back post.

Yet the unmarked Malokase skied his volleyed effort high and wide of the target when he really should have hit the back of the net.

With pressure mounting on the Urban Warriors, Stars made it two-nil, after Ngele played a one-two with Phala, who returned an accurate pass to put Ngele through on goal.

With only Roberts to beat, the Stars midfielder made no mistake to notch up his fifth goal of the season.

Dikwena came out after the break and showed no signs of letting up, as Phala continued his good form on the local scene.

Ngele was involved once again as the Stars midfield made superb work to release Phala through on goal, before the winger put the ball past Roberts, to all but secure the result with more than half-an-hour left to play.
