After finding themselves involved in a relegation scrap during the early stages of the season, the appointment of former Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has seen the Pretoria giants go on a good run of form.

Mosimane's side, who played to a goalless draw with Kaizer Chiefs in midweek, are now nine matches unbeaten and their latest victory has helped them to move into seventh place with 22 points, albeit they have played one more game then those around them.

Goals from Katlego Mphela, Jabulani Shongwe and Nyasha Mushekwi helped Downs to a fairly straightforward win at the coast and also move them nine points clear of the relegation area.

Striker Mphela settled the early nerves for the Brazilians after only four minutes as midfielder Teko Modise chested the ball into his path with the Bafana striker doing the rest. Although goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters got a touch, the ball still managed to trickle over the goal-line.

Mphela and Elias Pelembe both had opportunities to double the lead, but they failed to take their chances while Maritzburg midfielder Delron Buckley's free-kick on the hour mark went straight to goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands.

Downs eventually got their second goal five minutes later and again Modise was at the heart of it as he launched a counter-attack and found Shongwe on the left with the latter's curling effort finding the left corner of the net.

The team put the icing on the cake for the visitors in the 83rd minute when Laffor robbed a sloppy Mohammed Awal off the ball and fed substitute Mushekwi, who had no problems beating Walters.
