Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi believes the two-month Africa Cup of Nations-enforced break was just what his side needed after they returned to PSL action with a 2-0 win over Pretoria University.

Abafana Bes'thende had been struggling for results last year, winning just two of their last eight Premiership ties heading into 2013, leaving them just three points above the relegation zone.
However, Mngqithi implemented a "pre-season" approach over the last eight weeks and set up some gruelling friendly matches to keep his players sharp, and the former AmaZulu boss is happy with what he saw this week.
"To be honest, I really appreciated the break because even before the break I was fighting to make sure we get into it so that we can have time and maybe get my philosophy and ideology across," Mngqithi said.
"For me, it was more or less a pre-season period, where we never concentrated a lot on just basic endurance, we were already working with tactics from our first week.
"The friendlies that we played also benefited us. We played quite a number of tough friendlies against Orlando Pirates, Wits, Bloemfontein Celtic and African Warriors. All of those teams gave us a really good run for our money."
