The hosts got off to the perfect start as Manyisa netted his second of the season.

The Bafana international picked up a flick-on from Collins Mbesuma before touching the ball past Mor Diouf and racing through unchallenged where he cooly slotted the ball past Man of the Match Ronwen Williams.

The visitors were clearly rattled by the early goal and the opening exchanges were a scrappy affair.

Simba Sithole and Edwin Gyimah were impressive in attack for Matsatsantsa and Lucky Lekgwathi had to be alert to steal the ball off the toe of former as he looked to race through on goal.

And while the hosts tried to settle into a passing rhythm, SuperSport lumped a number of long balls forward and threatened from long throw after long throw.

Pirates' next chance came after just 10 minutes as Daine Klate missed from point-blank range with a volley that he somehow contrived to smash over the target after a long throw of their own that inadvertently headed into the box by Davis Nkausu.

Klate had a better effort on goal from a free-kick that ended up in the arms of Williams before Happy Jele saw a shot blocked from the edge of the box.

Bradley Grobler showed glimpses of his class but was for the most part starved of service as Gyimah, who was improving with every minute, saw his shot from range well blocked by Klate who tracked his run from the right flank into the centre of the park.

Klate tried to pick out Mbesuma with a cross that was just inches behind the big striker at the start of the second half while Williams did expertly to deny Klate from close range.

Siyabonga Sangweni had to be at his best to make a vital block and stop Gyimah from equalising with a volley inside the box while Sithole wasted a great chance to score with a free header that he powered over the goal after a super cross from the right from Gyimah.

Myeni then missed a glorious chance after a great counter form Pirates. Thabo Matlaba lofted a ball to Manyisa who headed on to Myeni who in turn took a touch before beating his man to set himself up for a shot but then contrived to put the ball wide of the right upright.

Davis Nkausu was then punished for a tackle on Klate outside the box with the referee pointing to the penalty spot but justice was done as Williams got down well to his right to keep out Andile Jali's soft spot-kick.

SuperSport continued to press for an equaliser with substitute Prince Nxumalo heading over from another long throw.

And with the match winding down Gyimah came agonisingly close to heading in a goal with a little flick to the back post after latching on to a Nkausu long throw.

Mark Mayambela got some game time in the dying minutes and he forced Williams to make a good one-handed save for virtually the last kick of the match.
