Rosslee: Big job to do

AmaZulu remained at the bottom of the PSL standings as they could only manage a goalless draw at home against Maritzburg United on Tuesday evening.

A win would have been enough to hoist Usuthu out of the basement following Chippa United's earlier defeat to Free State Stars, but Craig Rosslee's side were unable to find a way past the Team of Choice, who finished the day in fifth, 11 points behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

The hosts started brightly and thought they had taken the lead through Ayanda Dlamini firing in from Thokozani Mshengu's pass, but he was flagged for off-side.

Heinrich Isaacks then had a good chance for the visitors but could only lift the ball over from close range, while at the other end Goodman Dlamini couldn't find target with his fierce hit.

He was again involved a few moments later as he forced a fine low save from Shu-Aib Walters, while the forward's namesake Ayanda thought he had won his side a penalty after being brought down by Mario Booysen, but the referee was quick to wave away the appeals.

Byrone Hendricks had a golden chance to give United the lead as he got on the end of Mario Booysen's flick-on, only to dawdle on the ball to allow a close-range opportunity disappear.

AmaZulu almost snatched the points late on as Njabulo Manqana's through-ball allowed Ayanda Dlamini to break free down the wing before putting the ball into the area, but with a host of team-mates to aim for he played the ball too close to the keeper who was able to save.
