After over a month out of action due to South Africa's hosting of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, the PSL returns this week with a clash between two of South Africa's heavyweights.

Pirates though could have done without the break as they went ten games without a loss to climb to second in the standings on 34 points, just one point behind bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

Pirates coach Roger De Sa says the AFCON break came at an inopportune time for his side but he is confident the Buccaneers can pick up where they left off.

"For us the momentum was right there, we would have liked the league to carry on, but the break came for everybody.

"We've been doing a lot of training matches, so hopefully we're back to where we were, but you never know until you get to the first game."

Meanwhile SuperSport will be disappointed with their position on the table as they sit in eighth place on 20 points, but a win over the Bucs could provide a much needed boost as they look to get their season back on track.

Matsatsantsa won just two out of their last 10 games before the break and will have to travel to Soweto without influential midfielder George Maluleka after it was confirmed that he has torn knee ligaments.

Head coach Gavin Hunt admits to being frustrated during the break but is relishing the demanding schedule the Pretoria based club face in the coming weeks.

"It has been frustrating for the last couple of weeks and the games now come thick and fast," Hunt told the Citizen.

"We are going to the Congo (for their Confederation Cup clash with DR Congo side CS Don Bosco) this weekend and it's going to be tough for us in the next couple of weeks. But we are looking forward to it, we are ready."

Pirates are also in continental action this weekend as they host Djabal from the Comoros Islands in an African Champions League tie.
