Keshi guided the Super Eagles to a hard-fought 1-0 win over surprise package Burkina Faso in the final at South Africa's National Stadium on Sunday - becoming one of just two African coaches to win the competition as a player and a coach.

Reports suggest Nigerian soccer authorities will do whatever it takes to keep hold of the 51-year-old former Togo and Mali coach who revealed his decision to step down on Metro FM where he told Robert Marawa he was not happy with the complete lack of confidence the confederation had showed in him and his team.

The Times reported: "There is a meeting scheduled between 'The Big Boss' (Keshi) and officials of the federation on their arrival in Nigeria."

Keshi went on to reveal that a flight had been booked to transport the players and staff back to Nigeria following their quarter-final clash with Ivory Coast, that they ended up wining in some style.

Keshi added: "I was already fired prior to that game against Ivory Coast. I did not discuss the matter with the players so they could focus on the game.

"Tickets were already booked for the team to fly back the following day."

The only other person to have won the Africa Cup of Nations as a player and a coach is Egyptian Mahmoud El Gohary.
