South Africa's top flight has been on hold since the end of December, but following the conclusion of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, the focus now returns to the Premiership.

Amakhosi enter the tie at the top of the standings, although they only hold a one-point lead over second-placed Orlando Pirates, who host SuperSport United on Wednesday.

Sundowns, meanwhile, enjoyed a mammoth turn-around in form towards the end of the first half of the season, with new coach Pitso Mosimane taking the Tshwane giants out of the relegation zone and up to 10th in the standings following seven matches without defeat.

A win this week could take Downs up to seventh, depending on results elsewhere in the country, although they would still be some 14 points off the pace of the leaders.

On the team front, South Africa's loss at AFCON proved the Glamour Boys' gain as coach Stuart Baxter saw no fewer than seven first-team players return from the competition on Friday.

The men in question are Itumeleng Khune, Siboniso Gaxa, Tsepo Masilela, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Bernard Parker and Lehlohonolo Majoro, who are now all back at Naturena and should be ready for action this week.

For Sundowns, Thela Ngobeni could make his debut after signing on in Chloorkop at the weekend, with the former Chiefs goalkeeper being brought in as cover for Wayne Sandilands, with Calvin Marlin and Dennis Onyango out injured.
