The Tunisian match official made several poor calls during the last-four encounter, including Burkinabe striker Jonathan Pitroipa's sending off deep into extra-time with the sides deadlocked at 1-1.
The west African side still managed to go on and shock the Black Stars and book their first ever appearance in an AFCON final after winning the penalty shoot-out 3-2, although Pitroipa has now been ruled out of the final, against Nigeria.
"The referee from last night's semi-final has already been suspended," Confederation of African Football secretary-general Hicham El Amrani said on Thursday.
"As for the duration of the suspension, I cannot comment on that as it will only be decided by the AFCON Organising Committee, which meets tomorrow."
Pitroipa can still appeal his red card, but would need the referee in question to admit to making an error in judgement, despite not having mentioned it in his report.
