The first half was a pretty dreary affair as both teams struggled to find their gear in the final third. Solid defensive units dominated the first half with no real chances for either side.

Both teams were pretty equally matched for most of the game until Asamoah Gyan broke free in the box and was brought down by Carlitos for a pretty contentious Ghana penalty.

Mubarak Wakaso stepped up to the spot and drove the spot-kick straight down the middle to put Ghana in the driving seat for the semi-final spot.

The goal seemed to wake Cape Verde from their slumber and they were arguably the better team for the remainder of the half and really threatened the Ghanaian goal with quality set-plays from Babanco.

Unfortunately for the Cape Verdeans, Fatau Dauda was in the form of his life and made several world-class saves to keep the Black Stars in the lead.

But a late lapse when the goalkeeper went up for the corner at the other end. The Blue Sharks failed to keep the ball and Wakaso sprinted clear to put the ball into the empty net.

Ghana will now await the result between Nigeria and Togo to see who their opposition will be in the semi-finals.
