Odemwingie: Outside Loftus Road

Peter Odemwingie has been given some "time off" following his transfer deadline day shenanigans that saw him try to engineer a move to QPR without permission from West Brom.

The Baggies were furious to learn of the Nigerian's unathorised attempts to secure a move away from the club by driving down to London where he was denied an opportunity to talk to his reported suitors on arrival.

West Brom subsequently revealed that no fee had been agreed and that Odemwingie had not been granted permission to discuss personal terms, despite the striker telling reporters he was close to finalising a move.

And on Friday, after meeting with club board members Dan Ashworth and Richard Garlick, as well as coach Steve Clarke, Odemwingie said: "I have been given a few days off and will be back in training next week."

And a statement from the club said: "After the events of the past week, the club decided it is in the best interests of all parties that Peter is not involved in Sunday's game and he was given permission to return home."

Odemwingie insists, however, that he will continue to seek a move away from the West Midlands club, telling Sky Sports News that "it is only a matter of time".

The 31-year-old also looks to have made his continued stay at the Hawthorns untenable by suggesting that West Brom acted in a similarly 'unprofessional' way when signing him from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2010.

"I came to this club (West Brom) in a wholly unprofessional way. I wasn't given any written permission by Lokomotiv Moscow but I arrived at this club. I did a medical, I don't think everything went so professional when I arrived."
