The Walia Antelopes drew heart from their 1-1 draw with Zambia in their opening game, before being subjected to a hefty dose of reality with a 4-0 thrashing by Burkina Faso.

And despite being dumped out of the competition in the group stages with their 2-0 loss to Nigeria, Ethiopia pushed the Super Eagles all the way before conceding two late penalties in a very competitive fixture in Rustenburg on Tuesday.

And a proud Degy says the future is bright for the country's emerging stars.

He said: "As a beginner in this tournament, I think we can give hope, a bright future for our guys, hope for the country. Anything is possible and we can bring the coming generation with us by giving them hope.

"We have seen through this game (2-0 loss to Nigeria) how much we can work and do something and now that you have seen the game, we tried to dominate the game.

"We worked hard and we knew these guys are professionals and have a lot of experience compared to us because they play abroad in big tournaments.

"We will learn a lot from this one. It's a learning time for us because our objective was at least to be in the quarter-final as much as possible but we knew what we had before us."
