The 46-year-old air-traffic controller sang a few lines from "The Biography of a Crioulo" as a way of expressing his delight at having qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition in what is the tiny island nation's first appearance at the continental championships.

The Blue Sharks had stormed the presser moments earlier, breaking out in song and dance, and when Antunes was finally able to address the waiting media, he revealed he is looking forward to hopefully facing Ghana in the next round.

As runners-up to South Africa, Cape Verde will play the first-placed finisher in Group B, which could be one of the Black Stars, Mali or DR Congo, with that group to be decided on Monday.

A joyful Antunes said: "Our objective was accomplished because we came here to win the game so we can go to the quarter-finals.

"We came here with the determination to win this game and I am very happy with all the work that was done by the team and by every individual on this team."

He also gave credit to a strong Sable Antelopes team, who had taken a 33rd-minute lead through an own-goal from captain Fernando Neves. Fernando Varela though netted an 82nd minute equaliser with Heldon securing all three points in injury time.

"Angola is a very strong team, we had to work hard throughout the game to progress," he said.

Antunes also revealed to knowing what was happening in the other Group A match between South Africa and Morocco that ended 2-2 and allowed both the home nation and Cape Verde to qualify.

"Yes, we were aware of the results, we knew a draw was no sufficient to go through so we played right through until the end for the win," he declared.

Looking forward to his side's next match, he concluded: "The strongest team is Ghana you know. We are probably going to get to play Ghana, we want to play the best so we would like to play with them."
