The Super Eagles were leading 1-0 against the defending champions in their second Group C match until the last 10 minutes when Grisha gave the Copper Bullets a spot-kick which goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene converted.

The action incensed the Nigerian players and the country's football federation (NFF), who lodged a protest with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Subsequently the governing body has responded and ordered Grisha to go home.

"He (Grisha) has been sent home. He will have no further action at this Nations Cup. His decisions did not tally with best practices of the refereeing profession and we would not allow anyone to start re-writing the rules of the game here," said the CAF official.

Stephen Keshi's side, tipped as favourites to lift the AFCON trophy, are second in Group C with two points, two behind leaders Burkina Faso, who take on Zambia on Tuesday.
