The Stallions last reached this stage in 1998 when they hosted the tournament, but since then have bowed out in the first round in the 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010 and 2012 installments.

Burkina Faso midfielder Djakaridja Kone knows that although they only need a point to progress to the next round, they have to focus against Zambia, who need victory to advance.

"I believe in our team - we have great players and now we have confidence," Kone told BBC Sport. "But we have to concentrate - we have to prepare well for the game against Zambia."

Stallions coach Paul Put reiterated Kone's comments, saying that a tight game plan against the defending champions is what is needed.

"Now we have to be smart against Zambia I think everything is in our hands," Put said. "Discipline, collective play and compact play will be key. I think we can keep our hopes of qualifying alive."

The game kicks off at 7pm at the Mbombela Stadium.
