The Super Eagles, favourites to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title, took the lead through Emmanuel Emenike in the 56th minute, but a dubious penalty was given to the defending champions just 10 minutes before the final whistle.

Copper Bullets gloveman Kennedy Mweene stepped up to slot home and give his side hope of reaching the next round.

Zambia and Nigeria have two points each and must win against Burkina Faso and Ethiopia respectively in their final group games on Tuesday.

"It was a bizarre call for a penalty. It was one of the worst calls I've seen in the history of football," Enyeama said during a post-match press conference.

"It doesn't belong to football if we want to develop the football of Africa. We don't [want to] see such calls for a game of such magnitude - Nigeria, Zambia, defending champions.

"I don't know what's really happening about the officiating. I'm really mad about it," he said of Egyptian referee.

"The last game (against Burkina Faso) we got a point-blank penalty but were not given [it]. The call [against Zambia] is one of the worst calls I've seen in [my] life."

Earlier in the game, Super Eagles midfield general John Obi Mikel missed a penalty when Zambia defender Davies Nkausu brought down Ahmed Musa.

Mikel made up for it with the pass that set Emenike up to score.
