In their first game against arch-rivals Tunisia they lost 1-0 despite dominating the match. This leaves them at the bottom of Group D that includes Ivory Coast and Togo, whom they face next.
Togo too will be looking to bounce back from an upsetting loss 2-1 loss to the Ivorians, so this bout promises fireworks.
"It is very hard to lose the first game especially since it was a derby, but I noticed that all the teams have struggled in their opening games," Bougherra told APS.
"In 2010 in Angola, we lost 3-0 against Malawi therefore we can still recover against Togo and everything will be fine," he said of their AFCON experience.
"They must not give up; it will be a great experience for them. They must think the fans, some of whom did not hesitate to make the long journey from Algeria.
"This simple thought should give them motivation so that they can excel. In any case, I have great confidence in this team."
The Fennec Foxes take on the Sparrow Hawks at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday night at 8pm.
