The goalkeeper appeared to handle just outside his area five minutes into the Group B match, and was yellow carded as a result. But the Eagles coach felt Dauda should have seen red.
Wakaso Mubarak went on to secure all three points for the Black Stars as he struck the game's only goal from the penalty spot after Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu had been brought down in the area by a reckless challenge from Adama Tamboura.
After the match Carteron said: "Nobody can explain why the referee didn't give a red card to the goalkeeper after five minutes.
"I think the rule is very clear. I know it was absolutely wrong, the rule has not been respected, and it is not an excuse because we lost the game."
Carteron felt his side had underperformed in the first half and after a few angry words in the changing room during the break his side came out a stronger side in the second half.
He added: "During half time I was really angry because I did not recognise my team in the first half."
But after the match he made it clear there was no time to dwell on the loss.
"At the end of the game I just said to my players that we have no time to be disappointed. It is a short competition and we have to be ready in four days.
"We lost but we have to be strong because the third game is a very difficult game against the (DR) Congo.
"We know we have to win and we will give 100 per cent to try to make a result."
The Frenchman was able to introduce Modibo Maiga in the second half and revealed his delight at the return of a player, from injury, who has been so influential for the Malian team.
"I'm happy one of our best players Modibo Maiga could play just a half today. We need him because during the qualification he scored a lot of goals and was one of our best players.
"So with Modibo in four days we will be better offensively."
