The defending African champions drew 1-1 with Ethiopia and Nigeria also got a point against Burkina Faso, who scored in the last few seconds of a pulsating clash.
Nevertheless, Renard is adamant his side can get maximum points against the Super Eagles.
"We showed in the past we can compete with anyone in Africa. Nigeria is a very good team but we are good enough to beat them," he told SuperSport.
"We are never scared of our opponents. The strength of the team spirit is to be confident and to think we can compete with anyone.
"It's a challenge to compete with any team in Africa. The level in Africa is very, very tough, it's not like before when you can see which one or two teams will go through."
All four teams have one point and all four will be in action at the Mbombela Stadium on Friday. The Zambia-Nigeria clash is at 5pm and the Ethiopia-Burkina Faso game is at 7pm.
