The Copper Bullets, 2012 champions, began this year's showpiece with a rocky 1-1 draw against Ethiopia, who hit back from 1-0 down even though they had played with 10 men since the 35th minute following goalkeeper Jemal Tassew's red card.

Herve Renard's men will now quickly need to refocus their efforts as they take on the Super Eagles, one of the pre-tournament favourites, at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

Stephen Keshi's side did, however, also play out a draw in their AFCON opener against Burkina Faso, who snatched a leveller deep into injury-time, while Nigeria finished the game with 10 men as Efe Ambrose was handed his marching orders in the 75th minute.

Those red cards now rule the respective players out of this weekend's clash, although Nigeria are set to bring Kenneth Omeruo into the starting line-up, while Collins Mbesuma and Emmanuel Mayuka are tipped to start in a two-pronged attack.

For Zambia, David Chabala will be hoping to add to his 108 caps, the country's record for appearances, while Christopher Katongo will look to improve his goal-scoring tally, having bagged 19 in 79 appearances.

Nigeria, though, have a bit of history on their side, having been the last team to beat the Zambians at AFCON, dispatching them on penalties in the 2010 quarter-finals.
