Niger defender Mohamed Chicoto believes their goalkeeper was fouled just as the game's goal was scored in their Group B clash with Mali.

Niger keeper Daouda Kassaly could not hold on to a harmless looking cross from the right by Fousseiny Diawara and the loose ball was pounced on by Seydou Keita, who hit it home the winning goal in the 84th minute.

Television replays show no interference from a Mali player who went up for a header together with a Niger player, yet Chicoto is crying foul.

"It is always like that at the Nations Cup for Niger. I don't know why, but there is always a problem with referees for Niger," said Chicoto.

Last year the Mena made their debut at the tournament and lost all three group stage matches.

Their next match is against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday at 8pm at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
