The Soldiers could only manage dreary sixth-place finish last season, but the appointment of Salim Ali as the club's new manager seems to have breathed new life into the side.

"The players are responding very well to training in week two. The coach has instilled a lot of positives into the team and everyone is looking forward to the new season," Simiyu told his club's official website.

"We have faith in the players that we have selected and we hope they are going to play well so that we recapture the league title we lost in 2011."

Another club member and newly appointed captain Evans Amwoka said of the tactician Ali: "He is a coach who has also been a player and he is now a qualified coach.

"His standards of training are high and if we can keep with that even in game situation, I believe the returns will be positive."
