Bafana were held to a goalless draw by the AFCON debutants and the Mamelodi Sundowns forward, who came on with about 21 minutes left, said the result was disappointing.

"The supporters are disappointed and the players are disappointed with the result," Mphela, who made his 50th appearance in national team colours, admitted.

"It is always important to win the first game and the reality is we didn't win our game, that is disappointing. I think the boys were nervous and we didn't create chances. So we all have the responsibility to contribute more," he said.

The 28-year-old, however, has expressed confidence that Bafana will bounce back from this setback and win their next match against Angola on January 23 in Durban.

"We didn't win of course, but I believe nothing is lost. Now the challenge for us is to go to Moses Mabhida and beat Angola, simple as that.

"It is a must win clash and everyone knows that. The good thing from all this is that we don't concede goals, so we have to work on scoring the goals," he said.

Meanwhile, Mphela added that he was not disappointed to lose his place in the starting eleven to Lehlohonolo Majoro.

"There is nothing wrong with what the coach did. We are a team here and anyone can play on the day so if you are not in the team, you must support the player starting," Mphela added.
