The 25-year-old earned a spot in Gordon Igesund's 23-man squad after his assured performances between the sticks for the Buccaneers since the start of 2012/13 PSL campaign.

With Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopper Itumeleng Khune Bafana Bafana's incumbent number one, and Mamelodi Sundowns' Wayne Sandilands his back-up, Meyiwa has accepted his role within the team.

"I am happy with my performance at club level and now coming to the national team is another challenge," Meyiwa told Pirates' official website.

"Here things are done differently and I have to take my time to learn.

"Khune has been in the National team for a long time and he has a lot of experience at this level. I am fine with being here and I am ready to play, but I think I have to learn more as far as playing against top players in the World is concerned."

He added: "If given a chance to play I will give my best, but for now, I am not even thinking of wrestling for the number one jersey - I am fully behind whoever starts the game.

"I will not rush things - the most important thing is to be ready to deliver if I am called ..."
