The Blue Sharks, as Cape Verde are known, famously beat four-time AFCON winners Cameroon over two-legs to qualify for the 2013 AFCON tournament and at the same time expelled the Indomitable Lions from the competition.
The minnows overcame a star-studded Cameroon side that included former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o, 2-0 in Praia (Cape Verde) and then lost 2-1 in Yaounde (Cameroon), going through 3-2 on aggregate.
"We know that everybody is watching us because we knocked out Cameroon and we are not going there to mess around," the defender told MTNFootball.
"For us, Cameroon is in the past now. Our focus is on proving ourselves against the guys in our group and doing well against South Africa, Angola and Morocco.
"We want to win every match and do our best - expect rigour and hard work.
"We are very happy and nothing more. We are motivated to do well."
To add to their historic appearance at the AFCON, Cape Verde will play in the very first game of the tournament against Bafana Bafana at the spectacular National Stadium in Johannesburg.
They are also the best ranked FIFA team in Group A, coming in at 69th place, followed by 74th placed Morocco, 84th placed Angola and then the 87th ranked hosts.
