Player To Watch: Moussa Maazou

Midfielder Issoufou Boubacar, with eight caps to his name, is already a key member of the squad. He is endowed with remarkable skill and great stamina and is particularly adept at linking attack with defence. He has strong claims but loses out to his captain Moussa Maazou.

At the age of just 23 years, Maazou is already one of Niger's most experienced campaigners. Despite failed spells at FC Lokeren in Belgium and CSKA Moscow in Russia, Maazou has established himself as a vital cog in the Mena wheel. The striker has scored seven goals for his country and will be central to their game plan in South Africa.

Rising Star: Mohamed Soumaila

Teenage defender Mohamed Soumaila has already won eight caps for his country. The 17-year-old was called up to Niger's first ever Africa Cup of Nations in 2012 and has been an ever-present since then. Soumaila will be Mena's first choice left-back, playing alongside the experienced centre-back pairing of Kofi Dankwa and Amadou Kader.

Sorely Missed: Yacouba Ali

Yacouba Ali would have been disappointed to miss the cut for AFCON 2013. At 18, he has already made a name for himself with the national team and club side Africa Sports in Cote d'Ivoire. The talented young striker would have added pace, raw power and creativity to the Niger squad.
