Following a four-month injury lay-off, the Cameroon international was handed a start in Spurs' 3-0 FA Cup win over Coventry on Saturday.
In the 28-year-old's absence, both Jan Vertonghen and Kyle Naughton have done well on the left side of defence.
But Assou-Ekotto is up for the challenge of winning back his starting berth.
"It's not a problem," he told the club's official website. "When I came here six years ago I was in competition with Gilberto, Lee Young-Pyo and Gareth Bale and it ended up being my place (in the team) so it's not a problem.
"It was not difficult because it is more easy to come back in to a team who are playing well.
"It was easy to play. I am cool to come back and to have a win at the end of the game so it's cool for us, for the team and for me."
Assou-Ekotto joined the north Londoners from French outfit Lens back in 2006.
Cameroon coach Jean-Paul Akono is said to be keen to lure Assou-Ekotto back to the national fold.
He has not played for the Indomitable Lions since 2010, when he quit international football after a disappointing World Cup campaign.
