The former Karuturi Sports defender failed to make an impact at title challengers AFC Leopards last season and has subsequently moved on to what he hopes are greener pastures.
"We have signed Amon Muchiri," said Irungu. "He is a very good defender and is underrated in my opinion. A very good player. He is versatile and can operate in a number of different positions.
"Being on a free transfer, it was an easy move to make. We welcome him here and hope that he can do well for the club."
Muchiri's arrival marks the sixth new signing for the Awendo club in the current transfer window, with strength in depth the focus in the new season.
"We are looking for useful players to bolster our squad," he added. "We want to rise up the standings in the Premier League and compete for a top position so we will stop at anything to ensure we have the resources.
"So far we have bolstered well but will not stop until we feel satisfied that we can compete well. We are on the right track and hope to keep it that way."
Sony Sugar finished the 2011/12 Premier League season 11th in the standings.
