The 31-year-old striker has impressed for West Brom so far this season, scoring four goals in nine appearances to help his side maintain their place in the top half of the Premier League standings.
Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi admitted recently he was unsure whether Odemwingie would travel to South Africa for the continental showpiece.
The Uzbekistan-born player has since learned of his AFCON omission via the media and has reacted angrily to being snubbed by Keshi.
"Every manager has got his own plans and tactics - if I don't figure in your plans, please be honest to tell me directly," Odemwingie said on Twitter.
"For 10 years I gave my all to the country as a player on the pitch, played for the nation and fans, not individuals.
"Because I speak out when things are not right, I guess some people are not just comfortable with that openness."
However, Keshi is nonplussed by Odemwingie's response and insists the reason for his exclusion is purely a tactical one.
"I don't even have a Facebook or Twitter account so it doesn't bother me at all," he told the BBC World Service.
"There's nothing personal about this stuff; Odemwingie is a very good player but right now I don't need him. He's a professional and he should be able to accept that."
