Jacques Anoma had seen his candidacy rejected during the association's 35th general assembly that took place in Marrakech in Morocco earlier in December, leaving Hayatou as the sole runner for the role.

"I am really satisfied with that decision," Iya said of his Cameroonian compatriot in a communique published by Fecafoot, calling on the other association members to "support Hayatou so that he completes his development plan for football in Africa."

The 66-year-old has headed CAF since 1988, with none able to budge him from his seat when it comes to the running of African football.
