South Africa romp to victory in Durban thanks to goals from Lehlohonolo Majoro and Siphiwe Tshabalala, and a second half penalty by May Mahlangu.

The win was just what was needed to lift the spirits of the national team's supporters as the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations gets ever closer, while the game also provided Igesund with a chance to explore various options.

"Obviously I'm very pleased that we won the game, it's always important to win for the fans," he said after the match.

"I got a lot out of today's game. I was able to give May Mahlangu a run, I was able to see (Sifiso) Myeni, I was able to see (Thabo) Matlaba.

"We have accomplished what we wanted to achieve today. Well done to the boys, but I must also say well done to Malawi."

The four-time PSL title winning coach feels that despite Malawi's status as continental minnows (they are ranked 111th, SA are 87th), the match was a good workout.

He added: "It was a tough game but I'm quite happy with where we are right now. They (Malawi) played hard, they made it very difficult for us and they had some good touches and moments in the game.

"We are looking forward now to just getting to January 2nd so that we can start working with the team as a unit."

The victory was Igesund's third in six matches since taking charge of the national team.
